From the beach to The City

March 8th, 2015, started out in Pacifica, CA shooting along side Sam Martin. We only had about an hour of time to kill before pushing to SF to meet up with Meez. Once we got to the Pacifica pier, the conditions were perfect. An overcast day, with light wind, a calm sea and mid 60’s. Kind of a perfect day in Pacifica because it's always cold AF.

After doing a quick lap at the beach and pier and grabbing a cappuccino, Sam and I left Pacifica and headed to the city to meet w/ Meez. On the drive over Sam was asking what we’re gonna hit up with Meez? The day before while on the phone w/ Meez, he was talking about an abandoned building he scouted the day before. He said it was decently easy to get into and he’d take us there. So I told Sam we'd be hitting up an abandoned building, plus knowing Meez. whenever shooting with him there's always some sort of sketch shit we have to do to get to the location. So once we swooped Meez and got to the location we climbed a fence and climbed through a couple windows and we were in the building. The building was trashed, walking on the floors you felt like you're about to fall through at any given moment.

Once we got done shooting every square inch of the building we made our way to a good vantage point to shoot magic hour. So we hit up Corona Heights. Ended up hanging out up there for a couple hours, I shot a time-lapse of the fog rolling over Twin Peaks from the beginning of magic hour till dark.

After the time-lapse was finished we left to go get some Mexican food before finishing off the night by hitting some rooftops. Ohhh…..just a heads up, don't eat at (Taqueria El Sol on Geary St.), hands down the worst Mexican food/ service I’ve ever had in the Bay Area. Nothing was fresh and the meat wasn't even cooked. So after that shitty experience we ended the night by hitting a rooftop overlooking the SF skyline. This was actually Sam’s first rooftop and my second ever. It was a chill rooftop, like 12 stories tall with a good 360 view of the city and waterfront. While up there Meez and I were joking back and forth about one day getting photos from the building with the red dot on it to the right of the TransAmerica building. Maybe one day.

Blast From The Past

After many long months of Craigslist surfing, my good friend Daud's car hunt finally ended last week. What he chose to pick up, or what he chose to be picked up by I should say instead, is something you don't just see casually driving on the road every day.. it's something so magnificent & saturated with style and soul: a 1975 BMW 2002. That's right, if you're not familiar with European car culture, 2002 is not the year of the car but rather the model. This thing is so sweet, I finally saw it a few days ago for the first time and was amazed by its beauty. Where to begin.. it's so damn classic. It's in excellent shape.. Daud found this bad boy hidden in Pacifica, belonging to the owner of a trustworthy little repair shop, so you know it's been taken care of. It's got a few things that need to be & will be redone; my boy has got big plans for this sleek seventies two door. He's gonna redo the whole interior & it'll likely see some drivetrain modification.. Anyways, he picked me up in that thing and let me tell you how I felt... WOW the paint is in excellent condition, the wheels and tires are super solid, the engine bay isn't absolutely immaculate but clean for the most part.. this thing has a SUNROOF which you manually crank open.. talk about a blast from the past. You step inside.. the seats are comfortable and clean.. The 1.9 liter inline 4 cylinder engine is driven by a 4 speed manual transmission and produces just about 100hp! And arguably the best part about this car is that it's exempt from California smog laws (smirk face)... this means that Daud can drop any kind of crazy fossil fuel burning, ozone layer destroying, atmosphere polluting type of engine he can find.. inside the body of this thing! Though we don't condone destroying the ozone layer here at Tribe.. you should take care of your home planet as much as you can, but have fun with it? Anyways.. I'll keep yall updated on the car as time flies by, that's enough typing for me, check out a few of the visuals I managed to capture yesterday. & shouts out to my gearheads and German auto enthusiasts out there, this one's for you.

Look at that dirt on the tire...

This is one of very few cars that bright yellow paint is acceptable on...

A timeless front end, for a timeless car...

Just look at her, looking at you...

Didn't go in the fire road but we definitely set the road on fire...

Trying to hide...

Just rollin...

What a beautiful day...

Nose...

Just sittin...

Stance.

Last week, my friend Laurel and I decided to make our way down to Malibu to go venture out and shoot around. Having already been to El Matador, I figured we'd head up a little bit more north and check out Leo Carrillo State Beach. Didn't really know what to expect out of this beach but upon arriving we were immediately taken in by such beauteous scenery. We started our trek up this cliff that allowed us to see the beach at a bigger perspective. As we tried to find our way down to the beach I just remember saying, “Damn, this place is fxkin’ gorgeous” a countless number of times... and I’m pretty sure Laurel couldn’t have agreed more.

The south end of the beach had the lowest of tides I’d seen all winter long. To my surprise the water was not cold AT ALLAs we walked our way through the beach, we encountered a couple coves that provided some soft natural light for me to mess with. I was stoked.

My favorite part about Leo Carrillo was how serene it was. Majority of the beach had sand that was untouched. No imprints, footprints, or any traces left behind, whatsoever. Type of joint you see only at some private beach out in Hawaii. It was like a mini getaway from the ever chaotic city-life. Anyways, I can keep on rambling about how awesome this place was but I highly suggest paying it a visit sometime in the near future.

Without further adieu, here are some images I captured that day. Shoutout to Lo for being my muse and much love to the TRIBE family!

San Francisco

Somehow I managed to avoid taking Friday classes this semester, so with President's Day on Monday, the perfect opportunity to go home presented itself. Coincidently, Valentine's Day also happened to fall on the weekend, so my girlfriend and I decided it would be cool to take a little vacation.

We hit the road after class on Thursday, and despite marinating in LA traffic for a few hours, (complimented by frequent pitstops for gas and milk shakes) we finally made it all the way up to the Bay. Started from San Diego, 9 hours later, NOW WE HERE, in beautiful Martinez, California. I’m not sure how many of the people reading this are actually familiar with Martinez or the fact that I’m originally from there, but it’s a cool little town tucked away in the East Bay Area, about 25 to 30 minutes from the big city (San Francisco). My girlfriend, Cassidy, is a SoCal native and has lived in San Diego county her whole life, so every time we get a chance to go explore up north, San Francisco is always at the top of her To-Do list.

Here are some photos I snapped while showing her around the city, as well as some smooth music to listen to from one of my favorite artists, Alexander Spit

Coincidentally, we did also just release some real nice pullover hoodies you can pick up from the online shop.
