After many long months of Craigslist surfing, my good friend Daud's car hunt finally ended last week. What he chose to pick up, or what he chose to be picked up by I should say instead, is something you don't just see casually driving on the road every day.. it's something so magnificent & saturated with style and soul: a 1975 BMW 2002. That's right, if you're not familiar with European car culture, 2002 is not the year of the car but rather the model. This thing is so sweet, I finally saw it a few days ago for the first time and was amazed by its beauty. Where to begin.. it's so damn classic. It's in excellent shape.. Daud found this bad boy hidden in Pacifica, belonging to the owner of a trustworthy little repair shop, so you know it's been taken care of. It's got a few things that need to be & will be redone; my boy has got big plans for this sleek seventies two door. He's gonna redo the whole interior & it'll likely see some drivetrain modification.. Anyways, he picked me up in that thing and let me tell you how I felt... WOW the paint is in excellent condition, the wheels and tires are super solid, the engine bay isn't absolutely immaculate but clean for the most part.. this thing has a SUNROOF which you manually crank open.. talk about a blast from the past. You step inside.. the seats are comfortable and clean.. The 1.9 liter inline 4 cylinder engine is driven by a 4 speed manual transmission and produces just about 100hp! And arguably the best part about this car is that it's exempt from California smog laws (smirk face)... this means that Daud can drop any kind of crazy fossil fuel burning, ozone layer destroying, atmosphere polluting type of engine he can find.. inside the body of this thing! Though we don't condone destroying the ozone layer here at Tribe.. you should take care of your home planet as much as you can, but have fun with it? Anyways.. I'll keep yall updated on the car as time flies by, that's enough typing for me, check out a few of the visuals I managed to capture yesterday. & shouts out to my gearheads and German auto enthusiasts out there, this one's for you.
